MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #58

"Neutralizing effects" - 1990

Writer: Steve Ditko

Penciler: Steve Ditko

Inker: Chris Ivy

Story:
Tony is wearing is old bulky gold suit, Happy's the faithful chauffeur with the bow tie and Pepper is the timid freckled-face secretary. No, this is not an old issue of Tales of Suspense, but rather an untold story from Mr. Stark's past. Some armored guy called the Neutralizer is after Stark's latest invention; an energizing module that is still in its early stages of development. After trashing Iron Man on their first encounter, the bad guy gets away with the precious module. Tony's only lead is that, since the invention hasn't been made public yet, the thief has to be one of the people working on the project. Pepper finds the clues leading to the culprit but before Iron Man can face the Neutralizer again, he realizes he'll need to make a few modifications to his golden suit of armor!

What's cool:
You've read all the early issues of Tales of Suspense? You thought you knew everything there is to know about Iron Man's early days? Well guess again, here's a fun little story you missed. Although the art isn't great, it does capture the atmosphere of those old 1960s comics that saw the birth of our favourite character. Old melancholic Iron Man or Steve Ditko fans will enjoy this one. If all you're really interested in is the modern version of Shell-Head, then maybe you should skip this one.

Quote:

"As a matter of fact, if I were to incorporate it into my armor, I'd have room for a lot more adaptations and accessories - and while I'm at it, my whole look could probably use some streamlining." Stark thinks to himself.
