Story:Did you ever want to read the very first Iron Man tale Kurt Busiek ever wrote? Well forget IM vol.3 #1 because THIS one is it buddy! Not only that, but this is the very tale that inspired the talented writer to come up with the story to the acclaimed mini-series MARVELS (the series that rediscovered Marvel heroes through the eyes of ordinary people). As if that wasn't enough to make you crave this book, I'll go on and tell you all about the story…

His name is Chester Harrigan. He's been working as a mechanic for Stark Enterprises for almost 3 years and just like he has been doing every month since he got hired, today Chester is applying for a new position. He wants to be Iron Man.

The next morning, when his phone rings, Chester is asked to replace Stark's chauffeur for the day. He knows Stark got to be real good friends with his first chauffeur and he figures this is his big chance to get a shot at the Iron Man job. Before the day is through, Stark's car (with both men inside) will get ripped to shreds by an armored terrorist calling himself Skullcrasher and Chester will get to see some actual Iron Man action up real close and personal!

What's cool:This is a very cool story, by an extremely talented writer and a pair of damn fine artists. Tony, Rhodey and Iron Man look absolutely great… ah! The memories! On top of that, this issue also features a fun tale about the West Coast Avengers and you'll get some more Iron Man in that one too since he was a member at the time! The cover is by that Keith guy, you know? The creator of the Maxx? Only he could get away with those proportions (compare the size of Iron Man's hands to the size of his head and you'll see what I mean) ;-)

What's baaad:
Well, if I really have to find something bad about this book, I guess I'll go with the third story featuring Thor… if you're suffering from insomnia, this story will work better than any sleeping pill you can find on the market! And don't get me started on the art…

Quote:

Chester thinks to himself: "I've admired Iron Man for years. He's different from the others. Sure, Thor, Captain America - those guys are heroes too, but you can't BE Thor or Cap, can you? But there's a guy in that suit. A guy like me." (Now there's a thought that has crossed every Iron fan's mind at least once in his or her life).
