ARMOR WARS (mini-series)

Marvel has announced via ComicsAlliance a new Secret Wars series spinning ou of the well-known "Armor Wars" storyline in Iron Man. Titled, fittingly enough, Armor Wars, this new series by James Robinson and Marcio Takara is set in the Battleworld domain of Technopolis, with Robinson promosing a lot of "armor vs. armor action."

"When it came to turning this title Armor Wars into enough of a concept it was worthy of a whole area of Battleworld, I felt there should be more to it [than the original Iron Man storyline]," says Robinson. "So there will be a lot of Armor Vs. Armor action in it, but this tale is so much more than the original series in terms of its scope."

Robinson describes Armor Wars setting in the Battleworld domain Technopolis as "a world where every single person living here has to wear armor all of the time" due to an unnamed disease. Including, apparently, 'Iron' versions of classic Marvel characters such as an armored Kingpin, an armored Spider-Man, an armored Thor that is, surprisingly enough, Jim Rhodes.

"It’s a super-high-tech world of armor and robotics and science, very much advanced to ours or even the normal Marvel Universe," the writer says. "And all of it overseen by Tony Stark and the resident Thor who acts as the chief of police here, maintaining order."

The conflict comes out of Tony's recently revealed brother from Kieron Gillen's Invincible Iron Man series, Arno Stark.

"Yes, Tony and brother are rivals in their manufacturing of the armor that everyone in Technopolis needs to wear in order to survive," Robinson says. "As to whether one is angel and the other the devil, I think it’s better if the reader discover that as the story unfolds."

The story is kicked off with a murder mystery, mixing crime fiction with what Robinson promises as an "'armor war' in each issue."

Armor Wars is set to debut in June, but there's no details from Marvel or ComicsAlliance as to the length of the series.
