Venom: The End, which is narrated by what is essentially an omnipotent A.I. version of Tony Stark/Iron Man vying for control over the universe, opens with the titular symbiote binding itself to Eddie. However, bonding with Eddie changes Venom, causing him to develop "a true love for (bio)life." Although this will eventually be key to Venom's motivation to protect all life in the universe, the symbiote initially refuses to let Eddie go, making him "the longest-lived of all human hosts whether he actually wanted that life or not."
The story then details how Venom slowly began to replace the decaying parts of Eddie with "Venomized analogs." As more and more parts of Eddie are changed out for those analogs, the horror on Eddie's face in the artwork grows and grows, indicating the process is truly terrible. Venom's deeds also result in Eddie's memories being altered, with the people and animals in them getting replaced by the symbiote. Eddie clearly doesn't appreciate having his lifespan extended by several hundred years at the expense of his humanity.
Venom's fear of rejection and loss -- which was a major part of his conflict with Peter -- cause him to keep Eddie alive, even when doing so it truly terrifying. Eventually, Eddie becomes "the last human on Earth." And this is when Venom makes a change, disentangling himself from Eddie and allowing his beloved host to die.
However, that's not quite the end of the story for Venom and Eddie. Although the former certainly causes the latter to suffer an incredible amount, when Venom realizes the A.I. attempting to conquer the universe has won, he sacrifices himself to create a new universe populated with all of those who'd lived. Among those shown in that new universe is Eddie. In the end, Venom overcomes his selfishness in order to do what's necessary to help others and be a true champion of life -- though he certainly made Eddie suffer along the way.
